چکیده

This report contains the notes from the second session of the 1997 IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference Short Course on Applying Computer Simulation Tools to Radiation Effects Problems. Part A discusses the physical phenomena modeled in radiation transport codes and various types of algorithmic implementations. Part B gives examples of how these codes can be used to design experiments whose results can be easily analyzed and describes how to calculate quantities of interest for electronic devices. ∗ Presented at the 1997 IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference (July 21-25, 1997, Snowmass, Colorado). Three-dimensional modeling of transport phenomena in a planar anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell

In this article three dimensional modeling of a planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) was investigated. The main objective was to attain the optimized cell operation. SOFC operation simulation involves a large number of parameters,   complicated equations, (mostly partial differential equations), and a sophisticated simulation technique; hence, a finite element method (FEM) multiphysics approach ...

Overview of Reverse Osmosis for Chemical Engineers. Part 2: Applications of Transport Models

This second part of the overview of reverse osmosis investigates the ability of membrane transport models, presented in Part 1, to describe and/or predict membrane performance under different operating conditions. The problem of using the transport models to describe mixed solute systems is also discussed. The emphasis is to provide a simple, practical, and yet comprehensive summary of the most...

Neuro-ACT Cognitive Architecture Applications in Modeling Driver’s Steering Behavior in Turns

Cognitive Architectures (CAs) are the core of artificial cognitive systems. A CA is supposed to specify the human brain at a level of abstraction suitable for explaining how it achieves the functions of the mind. Over the years a number of distinct CAs have been proposed by different authors and their limitations and potentials were investigated. These CAs are usually classified as symbolic and...

Comparison of ScintSim1 and Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation codes for optical photon transport in thick segmented scintillator arrays

Introduction: Arrays of segmented scintillation crystals are useful in megavoltage x-ray imaging detectors for image-guided radiotherapy. Most previous theoretical studies on these detectors have modelled only ionizing-radiation transport. Scintillation light also affects detector performance. ScintSim1, our previously reported optical Monte Carlo code for such detector...

Overview of Reverse Osmosis for Chemical Engineers Part 1, Fundamentals of Membrane Mass Transfer

Reverse osmosis (RO). has become a standard unit operation in Chemical Engineering. This separation process can be used for a wide variety of applications including: desalination of sea water, treatment of industrial wastes, concentration of food products, and recovery of value materials from solution mixtures. In order to best utilize RO it is necessary to have a fundamental understanding of t...
